Book/Video Store Updates

HOLIDAY NEWS

This Saturday, Queen City Shakespeare’s Puppet Players are going to here from noon until 2 pm. There will be stories, crafts, free hot cocoa, and a bake sale. This all takes place right before the Downtown Christmas Parade, so come down early, enjoy some Shakespeare, and then get a great place to view the parade!

We are still collecting Spanish language paperback books for Abide in Love. Abide in Love collects books for people in detention centers awaiting immigration proceedings. You can drop off books to the Abide in Love donation basket here.

Looking for the perfect holiday gift for the reader in your life? We have gift certificates available in any amount. Perfect stocking stuffers for your friend who has probably already read everything you are thinking of buying them! Speaking of puppets, we also have these little Sherlock Holmes finger puppets! Let your kids solve the mystery of who didn’t put the chip clip back on the bag (hint: you don’t need Sherlock for this one...IT WAS THEM!)

GOOGORIUM MOVIE EMPORIUM UPDATES

The potential acquisition of Warner Brothers by Netflix could put a wrench into our plan to have MORE MOVIES THAN NETFLIX by the end of 2026. If they become the owner of WB’s library of over 12,000 films. This, however, will not deter us, and we will simply pivot to declaring MORE MOVIES THAN NETFLIX...by 2030 or so! Either way, the potential buyout is a just another example of the exact kind of corporate ownership and control falling into fewer and fewer hands that threatens access to art. The control of the entire Police Academy series hangs in the balance!

I have had several people reach out about the possibility of donating DVDs/VHS tapes for the EMPORIUM, and while I am hesitant to do any kind of GIMMIE GIMMIE GIMMIE requests for free inventory, I want to be clear I WILL TAKE ANYTHING FOR FREE! We are currently in the planning stages of a January film drive event, and are working on coming up with some rewards and so forth for donations. Details to come soon! But yes, if you have a copy of 976-Evil sitting around that you don’t need, we’ll take it!

Mr Googorium’s is now on Letterboxd at https://letterboxd.com/mrgoogsmovies/lists/. Our inventory will be viewable by searching lists. I’m just starting to update each section, so hopefully by the end of the month, all of our titles will be searchable, and you will see that the documentaries are not just going to be 4 Michael Moore movies, the GG Allin documentary, and something called “My Life with Morrissey”.
